Huasteca Kayak Trip
Two weeks of WATERFALLS in the Huasteca!
The Huasteca has been our base for FIVE years. We know the rivers of this region better than anyone. This season we will be offering two weeks of Waterfalling in NOVEMBER!
The waterfalls of the Huasteca are the cleanest in all Mexico. The have the lowest consequences with the most vertical feet of drop. We will be running the following rivers:
Micos: Upper and Lower, with 7 falls and 5 miles of class 2-3 scenic rapids. The first mile of the Micos drops 400 feet, it is the steepest class 3+ you will ever run.
EL Salto: The headwaters of the Rio Micos offers 22 rapis in 2 miles. El Salto has an amzing concentration of vertical drops and slides. Many of the rapids are double drops which require aquick turn or boof before the next drop. El Salto is a excellent step up from the Rio Micos.
Ojo Frio: This river has the hydraulics. Many of the waterfalls have sticky holes, so practice your boof on Micos and El Salto. The Frio has 15 waterfalls in the first half, the biggest 10 feet. After the canyon you will find the best rapids in the valley. 2 miles of continuous read and run 3+.
Minas Viejas: This river will make you SMILE! we start at the base of a 150 foot falls and drop 650 feet in 3 miles. All rapids are runnable with November water levels. 3 slides from 30 to 50 feet and close to 55 rapids/wtaerfalls. Minas is the only class 4-5 day run in the area! This run is my personal favorite. Did I mention the water is crystal clear turquoise?
Depending on group strength and if there is the desire, the last 2 days can be spent as an overnight trip. If not we will offer a repeat of any of these previous rivers.
The bonus run will be the the Upper San Nicolas!
Upper San Nicolas: This river is a 2 day class 4-5 waterfall run into the San Nicolas canyon. We will camp at the confluence of the two rivers and finish the run with the class 4 San Nicolas. The first day we will drop 750 feet in 2,5 miles. It is a travertine waterfall/slide with 3-4 portages, until the confluence of the San Nic. Day 2 will be wide open rapids into a flat water box canyon and then another 4 miles of continuous class 4. This river is very remote and pristine. It has only been descended a handfull of times.
Our lodging will be river side on the Rio Micos. The Eco Village has Cabanas with electricity and food will be served under the huge main palapa. if you didn't get enough vertical feet in a day, the put in for the Micos waterfalls is only 8 minutes away and you can paddle back to camp!
