Micos is a section of river with everything; waterfalls from 6 to 60 feet with sliding and vertical freefall drops, plus class I -III rapids on the lower section.
River left is a beautiful class II slide into the lower pool.

The second drop is a river wide ledge 10 feet tall. The third drop is pictured at the top of the page.
Next you will find "La Serpiente", "La Grande" and the final rapid with "Bad Boy" and "La Turbulencia".
The 60 foot water fall is above the put in. It is runnable and fairly easy to get to, although quite a bit BIGGER in person!
Travel times to this section : from hotel-20minutes, from ranch 10 minutes.

El Salto is Micos times 3. There are 22 different drops ranging from 5 to 25 feet. The biggest drop is pictured above. El Salto has different waterfalls from Micos. Each one is quick and to the point. Micos is more slides.

El Salto starts in the discharge canal for the hydro-electric plant. Two rapids later you will be looking at the biggest drop. Above is the drop called "Aquario"

This is a typical drop on the El Salto.

The last two drops of the run are over 15 feet of freefall. Once you see this drop, you only have one pool left before El Meco.
This run is a great way to spend a hot day in Mexico. Five hours on the water. It is a long run with a bumpy shuttle, but with 2000 foot canyaon walls and a 150 meter long natural bridge, it is totally worth it.

The photo above shows "Ruletta Rusa". It is the first big rapid in this section. Before Ruletta you will find "The Labirinto" This rapid has a large undercut/caveon the river left. In a kayak this rapid is rather safe, as long as you don't swim. Swimmers do not want to be here. Pictured Below.

After this you will find "Iceburg", "Oasis",the "Dos Ratones" and "La Tumba".

After the rapids there is the Puente De Dios. This is translated, "bridge of God" a natural bridge has formed from the highly calcified water that flows from a spring fifty feet above the river left shore.

Tampaon has something for everyone. Great surf waves, holes and plenty of squirting eddy lines. The river scenery is some of the best in the world. The canyon itself has to be seen to believe.

Enjoy your day!
